Shirley Ann Martin, daughter of the late Buster and Bessie (Dunn) Hill, was born August 15, 1942, in Birmingham, AL.
At an early age the family relocated to Lima, OH., where she professed Christ as her savior. She graduated from Lima Senior High School. Shirley continued her educational pursuits at Central State University and the University of Michigan. She was a resident of Detroit and Redford, MI until her unexpected passing. Shirley's caring and compassionate nature was shown with many years of employment with the State of Michigan as a Social Worker and with Southfield Public Schools as a paraprofessional.
Despite two retirements, Shirley continued providing community and social services by volunteering at the Farmington Hills Salvation Army, Focus Hope, and various nursing homes. In addition, Shirley stayed physically active throughout her life. She was an avid mall walker building friendships with fellow walkers at the former Northland Mall and the Southfield Pavilion.
Shirley's life centered around family, and she dedicated her life's work to their well-being. She leaves to cherish her memory, son Damon Martin of Redford, MI and daughter Tobi Martin of Beverly Hills, MI. Grandchildren Erica Escoe, Evan Martin, and a host of loving and devoted cousins, friends and her forever pet dog "Marty". As a result of her kindhearted spirit, Shirley was loved by many. Her influence and love will forever be missed by those she encountered.
