Josephus R. Petaway

Josephus R. Petaway Jr., age 72, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at his residence.

He was born April 14, 1950 in Greenwood, MS to Josephus Petaway Sr. and Lillie Hughes Petaway. Both who preceded him in death.

He was married to Mary Itson Petaway on July 7, 1973. She survives in Lima, Ohio.

Joe was retired from General Dynamics after 30 years on the job.  He was also an experienced truck driver for 15 years.  Joe was a faithful member of Future Church in Lima. When he was not at work or at church he enjoyed sci-fi movies, carpentry and working on his home. He had a special love for his grandkids as he enjoyed “picking on” them. Those who loved him knew he was always “punishing himself”.  He will be dearly missed.

Besides his loving wife, he leaves to cherish his precious memory 4 sons: Josephus (Kesha) R. Petaway III. Nicholas (Joy) Petaway. Terence (Ashley) Petaway and Tyrone Perry all of Lima, Ohio. 1 daughter; Crystal Evans. 22 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. 5 brothers; George Reeder of Greenwood, MS. Francis Petaway of Lima, OH and Dougles Petaway of North Dakota. Timothy (Kimberly) Petaway of Indianapolis, IN. Jose’ Carrizales of Toledo, OH. 5 sisters; Theresa Maxineanu of Overland Park, KS. Phyllis (Robert) Sandifer of Greenwood, MS. Nikita Kaye Petaway of Lima, OH. Brenda Bassi and Linda (Carey) Sturdivant both of Indianapolis, IN. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by 1 brother; Gregory Petaway. 4 sisters; Mattie Petaway, Jean Reeder, Lillie M. Petaway and Maracile Petaway. His paternal grandparents Bob and Mattie (Robinson) Petaway. Maternal grandparents Francis and Isabel (Young) Hughes.

Home Going Services will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Jones-Clark Funeral Home with Rev. Annie Hughes officiating. 

Visitation/Wake will be held on, Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. until time of services also at the funeral home.
