Joseph Faulcon Obituary

On Monday, November 21, 2022, at about 5:41 a.m. Deacon Joseph Faulcon received his heavenly wings. He passed away peacefully in his home in Georgia. We know he’s in a better place. When God invited him home, he readily accepted the invitation.

He was born in North Carolina on October 24, 1938, to Dudley Clanton and Mary W. Faulcon (both deceased). He attended public schools in NC, and upon graduation attended Durham Technical College. Graduating with a degree in Watchmaking, he would develop a passion for jewelry.  Later on in Ohio, he worked for Jacobs Jewelry for several years before branching out to start F & L Jewelry.  He continued in the jewelry business until retirement.

At a very young age he joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he loved to serve. At Mt. Olive he was an avid Usher and Sunday School Superintendent. On August 14, 1967, he married Mary E. Davis and moved to Lima, Ohio.  In January of the next year, they joined Second Baptist Church. Joseph continued his mission of serving in many capacities during his tenure at Second Baptist:  Usher, Custodian, Men’s Chorus, Men’s Finance Committee, Trustee Board and worked with the Deacon Board over 40 years. He served faithfully until his health began to fail.

After prayerfully seeking advice from physicians and family it was decided to seek specialized care at Emory University Medical Center. This would lead Mary and Joseph to the next step of their journey when they moved to Georgia in 2017. Upon relocation, they attended and later joined First Baptist Conyers. While living in Georgia, they enjoyed spending time with their sons, daughter, and grandchildren, often going on family trips. Even as his health worsened during a recent trip, Joe made the statement that “He gave me one more day to serve”.  As stated in II Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife of 55 years Mary Faulcon; two sons: Darrell Faulcon of Indiana, Brian Faulcon of Georgia; a daughter, Lorraine (Frank) Gilbert of Georgia; two grandchildren: Jalen Faulcon and Avery Gilbert; extended family includes:  Regenia Spears-Welch, Camille McDonald, Shantae Younger, Tameca Busby, Marcus Lupoe, and Byron Hall, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joseph was preceded in death by his twin sister, Susan Newell.

The family would like to thank Emory University Healthcare staff and Longleaf Hospice for being patient, understanding, and providing excellent care.
