William Neal
Steward, Sr.
December 5, 1930 – October 7, 2025
Mr. William Neal Steward, Sr., age 94, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at approximately 7:13 a.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, Ohio. He was born on December 5, 1930, in Mendenhall, Mississippi, to William Eugene Steward Sr. and Alberta (Dunlap) Steward, who both preceded him in death. On September 11, 1953, he was united in holy matrimony to Betty J. Lyons, who survives in Lima. Mr. Steward proudly served his country as a Veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his service, he worked for many years at Lima Tank Plant and Ford Motor Company. He was a faithful member of Philippian Missionary Baptist Church and Grace Church Worldwide Ministries. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. He also shared his love of the game as a Little League Baseball Coach, mentoring countless young players over the years. In addition to his devoted wife Betty, Mr. Steward leaves to cherish his precious memory six children: Helen Thomas and Carol A. Fails (Rev. Ronald), both of Lima; Larry Steward (Victoria) of West Bloomfield, MI; Anthony Steward of Bowling Green, OH; Jeffrey Steward of Columbus, OH; and William N. Steward, Jr. (Kristie) of Lima. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two brothers, Otis Steward (Teri) of Columbus, OH, and Daron Steward (Maureen) of Lowell, AK; and four sisters, Joyce Williams (Roger) of Sidney, OH; Claudia Stockard of Toledo, OH; Brenda Steward of Baldwinsville, NY; and Vivian Turner of Miami, FL. A host of other relatives and friends also celebrate his life and legacy. Mr. Steward was preceded in death by his brother, William E. Steward Jr.; two sisters, Willa S. Skipworth and Jency Bell Lurena Harris; and a daughter-in-law, Maryann Steward. Homegoing Services will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Grace Church Worldwide Ministries, with Pastor Ronald Fails officiating. Visitation/Wake will take place the same day beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Military Honors will be rendered by the V.F.W. 1275 Honor Guard. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
