Obituary

Wallace Cornelius Mann, Jr, age 67, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Mann was born on March 10, 1947 in Lima, Ohio to the union of Wallace C. and Mary E. Cook Mann, Sr.  His father preceded him in death and his mother Mary E. Cook-Mann O'Neal and his stepfather; Jack O'Neal also preceded him in death.

Mr. Mann was a 1965 graduate of Lima Senior High School. Upon graduation, he bravely served his country in The United States Army, completing an active tour of duty in the Vietnam War as a military policeman. He would later use that experience during his tenure as a corrections officer with Lima Correctional Institute. His wife, Shirley Whaley Mann, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Mann was a member of Cornerstone Harvest Church, a charter member of VFW Post 1911 and a member of American Legion #95. He loved listening to jazz, fishing, playing chess with his grandson, and being around family and friends. He never met a stranger he couldn't turn into a friend. He will be dearly missed.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory two sons; Jarrett Mann of West Palm Beach, FL, and Tor Cole of Phoenix, AZ. Four daughters; Tara Mann of Miami, FL, Mia Mann of North Olmsted, OH, Suzette (Kevin) Sampson of Lima, OH and Robin (Ron) Strahorn, of Cincinnati, OH.  Eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Two brothers; Calvin (Carolyn) Mann of Hilliard, OH, and Lamar O'Neal of Lima, OH. A sister, Sharon (Sidney) Little of Lima, OH and two stepsisters, Betty Peterson of Lima, OH and Nancy Nance of Columbus, OH.  A sister-in-law:  Karen Sue Sanders of Lima.

He was preceded in death by a brother; William Sanders and a nephew; Kevin Little.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Dayton VA Medical Center for their exceptional service, especially Renee, whose care and attention made these final months peaceful and pleasant.
