Virgil Leroy Banks, age 90, passed from this life on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at approximately 8:58 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health Systems in Lima, OH.
He was born on March 20, 1935 in Lima, Ohio to Virgil Gina and Clara (Owens) Banks. Both parents preceded him in death.
On December 2, 1961 he was united in holy matrimony to Barbara L. Ross who survives in Lima.
Mr. Banks was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired as General Foreman from Ford Motor Company. He was a member of Second Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee and sang in the Male Chorus and the Mass Choir. He was a National Champion Weight Lifter and owned the First Black Coed Gym in Lima. He was also the strength coach at Perry High School. He also flew commercial planes and was a huge Cincinnati Bengal Fan.
Besides his loving wife Barbara L. Banks he leaves to cherish his precious memory 4 daughters; Tascia B. Watson (Louie) of Powell, OH, Crystal L. Dillard (Darrick) and Lisa Banks both of Lima and Voletta L. Banks of Cincinnati, OH. A son; Adrian D. Banks (Marie). 10 grandchildren and 14 great'grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Annie Henderson, Emma Wilson and Edna Lamar. 2 brothers; Johnny W. Banks and John R. Banks.
Home Going Services will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Dennis Ward, officiating.
Visitation/Wake will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. until time of services also at the Church.
Entombment: Memorial Park Mausoleum
