Samir Ahmad Mayes, affectionately known and loved by many, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 4:55 a.m. at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was 22 years young.
Born on March 30, 2004, to Leslie J. Mayes and Carla T. Dukes, Samir lived life boldly, stylishly, and always on his own terms. From a young age, he had a passion for cars especially antique classics and high-performance rides. That passion grew into brotherhood as he became a proud member of Interstate Runnaz Car Club, where his love for the culture and community ran deep.
Samir was also known for stepping fresh every time he walked out the door. A true sneakerhead with unmatched style, he loved a clean fit and the latest kicks. Whether he was pulling up late “fashionably” of course or making an entrance with his signature smile and energy, Samir knew how to light up any room. He was a proud 2022 graduate of Beechcroft High School in Columbus, Ohio.
More than anything, Samir loved his family. He cherished every moment spent laughing, joking, and creating memories with those closest to him. His love was genuine, his spirit was unforgettable, and his presence was one that people naturally gravitated toward.
Left to forever honor and cherish his memory is his precious and beautiful daughter, Serenity Tru’Royalty Mayes of Lima, Ohio; his loving parents, Leslie J. (Lashawnda Walker) Mayes of Detroit, Michigan, and Carla T. Dukes of Columbus, Ohio; his brothers, Leslie Gumm, Malik Mayes, and Lamarion Oneal; and his sisters, Janae Dukes, Kamaya Moncrief, Kalon Moncrief, Jalehia Walker, and Jalaiah Holloway.
Samir also leaves behind his maternal grandparents, Steven L. Dukes and Linda K. Dukes; paternal grandmother, Crystal King; aunts, Erica Dukes-James and Vanessa Sears-Mayes; uncles, Jermaine Dukes and Antoin Dukes; godmother, Aretha Glenn; godsister, Justice Glenn; cousin who is more like a brother, Steven Edwards II; cousin, DeAndre “Dino” Mayes; and a host of loving cousins who shares a close-knit sibling bond filled with love, loyalty, and lifelong memories.
Samir was preceded in death by two brothers Rico Fields and Jacobi Walker and paternal great-grandparents Carl and Mildred Mayes.
Though Samir’s time here was far too short, the impact he made will last forever. His style, laughter, love for family, and unforgettable energy will continue to ride with all who knew him.
Services celebrating the life of Samir Ahmad Mayes will be held Friday, May 29, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
