Mr. Rubin "Football" Sims, Jr., age 78, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at approximately 9:44 a.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on January 2, 1937 in East Chicago, Indiana to the union of Rubin and Annie Dillard Sims, Sr.; both parents preceded him in death.
On June 24, 1961 he was united in holy matrimony to Fannie M. Grant who survives in Lima.
Mr. Sims graduated from Shawnee High School in 1955 where he loved Football; he was installed into the Shawnee High School Hall of Fame in 1990. After high school he went to Bowling Green University for one year then enlisted into the United States Marines. He also loved playing Golf and belonged to the Golf Club.
Mr. Sims retired from Teledyne Ohio Steel Foundry and Chase Bank. He became a born again Christian in 1983 and joined Eleventh Street Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee. He later moved his membership to Philippian Missionary Baptist Church.
Besides his loving wife Fannie, he leaves to cherish his precious memory 3 sisters; Alberta Sims Fisher, Mary Sims Dixon (Oscar, Sr.) and Pearl Sims Lane (Colling) all of Lima. An Uncle; Cullen Dillard of Lima. 2 special brothers; James Tucker of Fostoria, OH and Sonny Tucker of South bend, IN. A special nephew; Terry Grant of Lima. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister; Helen Sims.
Home going services will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Philippian Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. B. LaMont Monford, Sr., officiating.
