Obituary

Rosetta “Rosie” Cannon (McLellan), a shining beacon of love and strength, departed this life on February 18, 2026, at the age of 78, with her beloved family by her side at Northside Hospital Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Born on August 3, 1947, in Durant, Mississippi, Rosie was the beloved daughter of James C. and Virginia (Brown) McLellan, both parents proceeding her in death. She was a woman of indomitable strength, deeply rooted in her faith in Jesus Christ and her unwavering love for her family.

Rosie's journey through life was marked by her unwavering strength and fierce dedication to her family and faith. She graduated from Perry Schools in 1966 and pursued a variety of interests, earning numerous certifications from Apollo Career Center in areas such as floral arrangements, air conditioning and refrigeration, cake decorating, and upholstery. Her educational pursuits extended into the beauty industry as she attended Ohio State Beauty Academy, obtaining her beautician license in Ohio, Alabama, and Florida.

At the young age of 15, Rosie began her working career alongside her mother, cooking and waiting tables at Milano Carry-Out. Her career path was diverse and vibrant, including a significant 25-year tenure with RCA/Harris in Findlay, OH. After this, she committed years of service as a Corrections Officer at the Lima Correctional Institution. Following her retirement, Rosie embraced a new chapter by obtaining her CDL license, which enabled her to travel 48 of the 50 states as a truck driver. Her adventurous spirit also led her to become a licensed private investigator. Additionally, she nurtured her entrepreneurial side, owning Cannon's Record Store and a beauty shop in Lima.

Rosie's passions extended beyond her professional life. A faithful member of Greater Christ Temple, she served diligently as an Usher, Choir Member, Pastors Aide President, Kitchen Helper, and Janitor. She was baptized in October 1981 and received the Holy Ghost in 1982. Her commitment to her faith culminated in her becoming a licensed Minister and Evangelist within the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World.

Rosie married the love of her life, Elder Russell "Eddie" Cannon, on November 8, 1986. They shared a beautiful 33 years together until Eddie's passing on August 4, 2001. One of Rosie’s proudest accomplishments was her determination to share Eddie's message of Christ with the world, which led to the release of the album "Magnificent Jesus."

Throughout her life, she was known for her wisdom and guiding principles. Her timeless saying, "If you going to do it, do it right. So, you won't have to do it over," resonated not only through her words but in the way she lived each day. She believed in the importance of hard work and lived by her motto, "Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might."

Rosie's legacy will forever live on in the hearts of her daughters, Felina Cannon and Rustisha Cannon of Lawrenceville, GA; her adopted daughter, Rosanna Williams-Wright; five brothers, Jesse L. Brown, Morgan McLellan, Johnny McLellan, Robert E. McLellan, and J. Lee Grant; three sisters, Shirlean McLellan, Shannon Rose-Tyler, and Marlon Rose-White; as well as her nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who were blessed to know her.

Besides her parents and husband Rosie was preceded in death by her children, Sherrie Cannon and Rosanna Cannon. Her adopted children, Shawn Tarver and Nicole Stapleton, two grandchildren: Sequoia Townsend and Quereon Mooney and her eight siblings: Willie J. McLellan, Tommy McLellan, Telly Rose, Lizzie L. Watkins, Geraldine McLellan, Darlene McLellan, Earlene McLellan and Sandra Battle.

Rosetta “Rosie” Cannon will be remembered as a pillar of strength, compassion, and unwavering faith. She touched the lives of many and her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. As we gather to celebrate her remarkable life, may we each carry forward the lessons she imparted and the love she shared.

A viewing will be held in her honor on February 27, 2026, from 11:00 A.M. at Greater Christ Temple, located at 511 E 2nd St, Lima, OH 45804. Where the family will be celebrating her remarkable life and the glorious promise of reunion in Christ.
