Robert "Sonny" Lee Shurelds, Sr., age 81, passed away at 8:10 p.m., Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Lima Memorial Hospital in Lima, Ohio.  He was born in Lima, Ohio on August 22, 1943, to Willie Cleveland Shurelds, Sr. and Dora Amerson.  Both parents preceded him in death.

On August 28, 1993, he married Robin Lynn Allen.  She survives him in Lima, Ohio.

Sonny worked as a guard at the Allen County Correctional Facility.  He was a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.  He was a member of the American Legion #96, Eagles Chapter #370, and a life member of VFW 1911.

He leaves to cherish his memory, 4 sons:  Jeffrey Hines of Columbus, OH; Andre' Austin of Celina, OH; Yusuf Ibrahim Hani Dirie of Columbus, OH; and Tavarus "TC" Shurelds of Lima, OH.  5 daughters:  Rae-Jean (Bobby) House of  Lima  OH; Nikki Humphries of Atlanta, GA; Cortrena  Wright of Lima, OH; Tausha Wright of Dayton, OH; and Lacrisha Shurelds of Lima, OH.  49 grandchildren , 42 great grandchildren & 4 special grandchildren:  Mikhal, Jakhia, Brionna, and Ahmad.  A host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Sonny is preceded in death by 3 sons:  Robert Shurelds, Jr., Christopher Shurelds, and Quan Shurelds.  2 daughters:  Lisa Shurelds and Lynn Howton.  3 brothers:  Larry V. Shurelds, Sr., Willie C. Shurelds, Jr., and Waydell Shurelds.  4 sisters:  Ruby Smith, Katie Simpson, Lucille Jefferson, and Marilyn F. Davis.

Home Going Services will be held Monday, December 2, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Taylor officiating.

Visitation/Wake services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service, also at the church.

Interment:  Woodlawn Cemetery
