Obituary

Rev. Robert James Horrison, age 86, transitioned from this life to eternity on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Shawnee Manor in Lima, Ohio.

Rev. Horrison was born on March 18, 1940, in Tuscumbia, Alabama, to the late Ulys and Mariah (Smith) Horrison, who both preceded him in death.

On February 20, 1971, he married the love of his life, Bernice Hill Horrison. Together they shared 56 blessed years, building a life grounded in love for one another, devotion to family, and unwavering faith in their Savior, Jesus Christ.

Rev. Horrison proudly served his country in the United States Army before retiring from the Lima Refinery in 1999 after many dedicated years of service as an electrician. He was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as Associate Minister, boldly proclaiming the Word of God and the message of the risen Savior.

In addition to his loving wife, Bernice Horrison, he leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children: two sons, Ricardo Brown and Scott Horrison, both of Lima, Ohio; and two daughters, Vanessa (Jerry) Melson of Columbus, Ohio, and Dr. LaShonda (Shawn) Gurley of Lima, Ohio. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild expected soon.

He is also survived by his siblings: three brothers, Ulysses Horrison of Spring Hope, North Carolina, Abron (Mildred) Harrison and Joe (Veronica) Horrison Sr., both of Lima, Ohio; and four sisters, Magie Thompson-Ward of Lima, Ohio, Evangelist Susie (Evangelist Bill) Little of Huntsville, Alabama, Minister Joyce (Rev. Robert) Curtis of Lima, Ohio, and Grenshae (Cory) Hamilton of Leighton, Alabama.

In addition to his parents, Rev. Horrison was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jada Melson; and four siblings, Ossie Mae Horrison, Ruthie B. Nance, Thomas Horrison, and Arthur Roger Horrison.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at 12:00 p.m. Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
