Richard Eugene Burton, age 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at his residence.

Richard was born on April 14, 1946, in Fostoria, Ohio, to Harvey G. Burton Jr. and Helen M. (Cousin) Burton, both of whom preceded him in death.

Richard dedicated much of his life to serving others. He faithfully served as a Deacon at Grace Worldwide Ministries in Lima, Ohio. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Army and retired from AAP Corp. in St. Mary’s, Ohio. On February 15, 2005 Richard married the love of his life Karen Wash.

Outside of his work and ministry, Richard enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He could often be found outdoors enjoying nature or barbecuing. He also had a love for reading, with a particular appreciation for non-fiction books. Above all, Richard loved the church and was a devoted follower of his faith.

Richard leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Karen Burton of Lima, Ohio; one stepson, Jermaine Wash of Findlay, Ohio; and two stepdaughters, Nichelle (Dennis) Crisp and Lateena (Dakona) Twe, both of Dayton, Ohio.

He is also survived by a special aunt, Betty Burton of Lima, Ohio; and relatives Debra Ann Wright, Veronica K. Turner, Joyce (Wayne) Long, Joanna Wash, Rosaline (Lamar) Walker, and Lorlita Wash, along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey G. Burton III and a brother in law, Orlando Wash.

Richard lived a life rooted in service to his community, his church, and his family. He touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, faith, and devotion will be remembered and cherished by those he leaves behind. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on through the lives and legacies of everyone who loved him

Services for Richard Burton will be held Friday September 18th, 2026 at Grace Worldwide Ministries at 12:00pm. Viewing is at 10:00am until the time of service with Pastor Ronald Fails Officiating.

Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery
