Melvin Demetrius Jones, age 67, of Lima, Ohio, peacefully transitioned from this life on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 7:22 p.m. at Lima Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Melvin was born on December 25, 1958, in Lima, Ohio, to the union of the late Booker T. Jones, Sr. and Ethel Lee (Rounds) Jones. Both of his parents preceded him in death.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Melvin retired from Trim Trends in 2006. He later continued his career with Keystone and retired in 2022. He was a faithful member of Philippian Missionary Baptist Church, where he found strength in his faith and fellowship.
Melvin enjoyed living life to the fullest. He loved attending the YMCA, spending time at family gatherings, visiting the casinos, and taking walks through the neighborhood with his beloved granddaughter. Above all, he took great pride in being a devoted grandfather. His grandchildren were the joy of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Melvin leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving companion of 30 years, Sally Williams of Lima, Ohio; one devoted son, Demetrius D. Taylor of Lima, Ohio; four stepdaughters, Teresa A. Williams, Priscilla Chandler, LaShawnea Reynolds, both of Lima, Ohio, and Tamika McMillian of Detroit, MI; and six grandchildren, whom he held close to his heart.
He is also survived by his siblings: three brothers, Robert T. (Richard) Jones, Alfred Lewis (LaDonna) Jones, and Calvin (Kelli) Jones, all of Lima, Ohio; and seven sisters, Berta Mae Williams of Independence, Missouri; Lula Estelle of Lima, Ohio; Ethel Mae (Mimi) Payne of Lima, Ohio; Beatrice Freedne Johnson of Lima, Ohio; Sharon Lynn (Anthony) Guice of Lima, Ohio; Trebie Jo Jones of Independence, Missouri; and Doris Tyler of Livonia, Michigan; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by two children, Shermaine Upshaw and Issac Williams; three siblings, Booker T. Jones, Jr., Adam Wydell "Jimmy" Jones, and Gale Martin Jones.
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we rejoice in the memories Melvin leaves behind. His kindness, gentle spirit, love for family, and unwavering devotion to those he loved will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of love, laughter, and faith will continue to inspire generations to come.
Homegoing services for Melvin Demetrius Jones will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Philippian Missionary Baptist Church. Family and friends are invited to gather for a public viewing one hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
