Mary Maxine Curry, age 64, peacefully made her transition on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 4:02 p.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio.
Mary was born on October 15, 1961, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Murley (Wireman) Hughes and Eugene S. Hughes, who preceded her in death. At a young age, Mary was lovingly adopted by John L. Curry and Gladys V. (Hughes) Curry, who also preceded her in death.
Mary was a devoted homemaker who had a special gift for making everyone who entered her home feel like family. She was a faithful member of Greater Christ Temple, where she sang in the choir and often served in the kitchen ministry. Affectionately known within the church as the “Candy Lady,” Mary brought joy to many—especially during Christmas and Easter—through her kindness, generosity, and sweet spirit.
In her free time, Mary enjoyed writing poetry, completing crossword puzzles, and engaging in arts and crafts. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family and friends, who were the center of her life.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: one son, John Curry of Lima, Ohio; and three daughters, Gladys Curry of Lima, Ohio, Charmaine (Patrick) Wallace of Maryland, and Veronica Curry of Lima, Ohio. She is also survived by six grandchildren; one brother, Owen Hughes of Delphos, Ohio; and two sisters, Rosemary Hughes and Sandra Wright, both of Lima, Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by four siblings: Luis Hughes, Carmen Chitman, Ronald Hughes and James Kelley.
Mary will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Greater Christ Temple, with visitation beginning two hours prior to the service.
