Mrs. Mabel A. Cherry, age 75, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 25, 2015 at approximately 11:40 a.m. at her residence in Lima.

She was born in Iuka, Mississippi on July 8, 1940 to the union of Will Carter and Mable Ethel Brown Thomas, Sr.; both parents preceded her in death.

On December 30, 1961 she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Russell Lee Cherry who preceded her in death on October 15, 2003.

Mrs. Cherry retired from the Dietary Department for the Lima City Schools.  She had previously worked at St. Rita's Medical Center as a Nurses Aid.   She was a member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served on the Stewardess Board.  She was a former member of St. James C.M.E. Church and a member the Bradfield Community Center.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory a son Richard Cherry (Shannon) of Columbus, OH and a step-son; Wallace Cherry (Gloria) of Columbus, OH.  A daughter; Wanda A. Cherry of Columbus, OH and a stepdaughter; Grace Y. Smith of Sacramento, CA.  4 grand-children; Troy, Mason, Maya and Tyra.  2 great-grandchildren.   4 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great grandchildren. 4 sisters; Edwina Johnson of Lima.  Harrold Lene Choice of Newark, OH.  Betty Murphy of Milwaukee, WI and E. Jayne McCullough of Toledo, OH.  A sister-niece; Charlene "Peaches" Adams (John) of Lima.  A host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son; Ronald P. Cherry.  A step-daughter; Doretha Saunders.  2 step-grandchildren.  A brother; Will C. Thomas, Jr.  3 sisters; Willie M. Fisher, Norma J. Brown and Emma H. Richardson.

Home going services will be held on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. John E. Kidd, officiating.

Visitation/Wake will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Jones-Clark Funeral Home, Inc. at 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Interment in Memorial Park Cemetery
