Obituary for Leah Eugenia Richardson
Leah Eugenia Richardson, age 92, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Spring view Manor Nursing Home in Lima, Ohio. She was born on June 9, 1932, in Akron, Ohio, to Emmer Martin and Carolyn Orel (Dunbar) Lancaster.
Leah was a woman of profound achievement and dedication. She graduated with distinction from The Rhode Island School of Design and Miami University of Ohio, where she honed her artistic talents and laid the foundation for a successful career. Initially serving as a layout and design artist at Buehl Advertising Agency in Akron, OH, Leah later transitioned into the field of education.
Her passion for nurturing young minds led Leah to become an esteemed art teacher within the Lima City Schools, where she imparted creativity and inspiration to countless students. She also co-coordinated the STARS (Seniors Teaching And Reaching Students) tutoring program, embodying her commitment to both education and community service.
Leah was deeply involved in various organizations throughout her life. She proudly served as a charter member of the Lima graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and found spiritual fulfillment as a devoted member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Findlay, OH, where her roles as a church lay reader and vestry member were marked by unwavering dedication.
Leah's legacy of love and kindness extends beyond her professional and community achievements. She leaves behind cherished memories for her daughter-in-law, Alicia Richardson of Sarasota, FL; her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her stepdaughter, Angela (Clarence) Mingo of New Albany, OH; her cousin, John W. Dunbar of Las Vegas, NV; her special daughter, Nell (Anthony) Lester; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by her warmth and wisdom.
She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Richardson, and cousins Sheila Berry, Faith Robinson, Dumas Robinson, and Father Ronald R. Baskin.
A celebration of Leah's life will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Jones-Clark Funeral Home. Following the service, Leah will be laid to rest at East Akron Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Leah's honor to Artspace Lima and the Scholarship Fund, care of Sisters in Service Community Foundation, P.O. Box 64, Lima, Ohio 45802.
