John Russell Fleming, age 65, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at approximately 3:00 a.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center.
Mr. Fleming was born on March 26, 1948 in Greenville, South Carolina to Ray Latimore and Ollie Bell Harris Fleming. His father is deceased and his mother Ollie B. Fleming Henry survives in Lima.
Mr. Fleming was a choir director for various churches and most recently St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a member of Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He taught many of the local musicians, he was truly a musically gifted person and could pick up any instrument and quickly learn to play it. He had attended Ohio State University for a brief period. He enjoyed Gardening.
Besides his loving Mother, he leaves to cherish his precious memory a brother: Dennis L. Henry (Theresa) of Lima. Five sisters: Joanne Fleming, Julia L. Nunez (Santos), Martha H. Doughty, Debora S. Dent all of Lima and Rebecca A. Jean-Louis of Atlanta GA. A host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, David D. Henry and his stepfather, Theodis Henry.
Services will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 1:00 pm. at Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Earnest Stephens, Jr., officiating.
Visitation/Wake services will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Jones-Clark Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Interment: Dayton National Cemetery
