Mr. Jimmie Lee "Cool Papa" Owens, Sr., age 73, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 9, 2014 at approximately 9:43 a.m. at his residence in Lima.
Mr. Owens was born in Lima, Ohio on January 21, 1941 to the union of Everett and Elnora Jennings Owens; both his parents preceded him in death.
On January 30, 1960 he was united in holy matrimony to Mary Helen Roberson who survives in Lima.
Mr. Owens retired as a Bus Driver for LACCA. He was a member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church where he served as a Church Trustee, Van Driver and the only male Missionary Society Member. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Besides his loving wife Mary, he leaves to cherish his precious memory three sons; Thomas E. Owens, Michael A. Owens and Jimmie L. Owens, Jr. all of Lima. A daughter: Vivian Roach of Lima. Three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Six brothers: Louis Owens, Howard Payne, Dennis Payne (Valerie), Larry "Poncho" Payne, all of Lima, Gary Payne (Shirley) of Knoxville, Tennessee. Calvin Payne (Beverly) of Columbus, Georgia. Two sisters: Linda Hollingsworth (Jonathan) of Dayton, Ohio and Donna Thornton (Sylvester) of Clarksdale, Mississippi. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother; Orville G. Owens and a sister; Phyllis Taylor.
Home going services will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church with Rev. Dr. John F. Newby, Jr., officiating.
Visitation/Wake services will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Jones-Clark Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
