Obituary

Jimmie Lee Farmer, age 93, transitioned from this life on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at 8:37 a.m. at Lima Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Jimmie was born on June 18, 1932, in Eufaula, Alabama, to the union of Flemming and Sally B. (Jackson) Farmer, who both preceded him in death.

In 1955, Jimmie married his first wife, Delores (Shedd) Farmer, and they remained united until her passing in 1976. On August 5, 2000, he married Ella B. Benton who survives in Lima.

Jimmie retired from LTV Steel in 1994 after many years of dedicated service. He was a faithful and devoted member of Eleventh Street Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board, participated in the Layman Group, and sang with the Male Chorus. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Pythias.

Besides his loving wife Ella, Jimmie leaves to cherish his memory three sons: Jesse C. Farmer of Gary, Indiana; Timothy (Renee) Farmer of Fort Washington, Maryland; and Anthony S. (Tammy) Benton of California; five daughters: Diane Crawford of Texas; Edith Nunley of Merrillville, Indiana; Rochelle Farmer and Jill Farmer, both of Gary, Indiana; and Deborah J. (Dexter) Payne of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Emma Fynn (Harvey) of Oakland, California; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by six children: Anthony Farmer, Cheryl L. Farmer, Marsha Farmer, Bruce Dillard, Kelvin Benton, and Lillie Dillard; and six siblings: Willie Farmer, Flemming Farmer, Josephine Byrd, Sallie Peterson, Lula B. Davis, and Bertha Denard.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Eleventh Street Missionary Baptist Church. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
