Jeffery Alan Godsey, age 71, was born on November 9, 1954, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late James L. Ward and Shirley A. (White) Godsey, who both preceded him in death. Jeffery peacefully transitioned from this life to eternity on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at his residence.
For more than 43 years Jeffery built a legacy of love and togetherness with his wife Fonda Cage.

He was a dedicated member of Philippian Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Senior Usher Board, as well as being a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #370 and the American Legion Post 96.
Jeffery was known for his impeccable fashion, his smooth walk, and his love of dancing, which brought joy to everyone around him. A passionate sports enthusiast, Jeffrey was an ardent fan of the Dallas Cowboys, the University of Michigan, and Lima Senior High School teams. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.

He is also survived by two brothers, Eric (Clydea) Upthegrove of Accokeek, MD, and Jason Upthegrove of Albion, MI; two sisters, Pamela Godsey and Kimberly Godsey, both of Lima, OH; one special aunt, Janet White (Aunt J) of Lima, OH; a special grandson, Jayden Gaddy of Lima, OH; 23 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Jeffery was preceded in death by his siblings Susan Washington, Richardo Ward, Michael Ward, Leonard Ward, and Kevin Godsey.
Jeffery’s life was marked by love, style, joy, and a passion for family, sports, and dance. He will be remembered fondly for the charisma and warmth he brought into every room.
