Mr. James Mayes, age 77, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at approximately 10:57 p.m. at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home.
He was born on April 14, 1937 in Rankin County, Mississippi to the union of Hugh M. and Rosa Brimage Mayes.
On August 23, 1960 he was united in holy matrimony to Mary Lina Bullock Mayes, she preceded him in death on February 20, 2014.
Mr. Mayes retired from Phillips Sylvania in Ottawa in 1997 after 30 years of service.
He was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where he was a Trustee and a member of the financial committee, and he was also a member of the Men's Ministry and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory, a son; Reginald Mayes, Sr. (Beverly) of Lima. An adopted daughter; Lisa J. Mayes of Lima. 4 grandsons; Reginald Mayes, Jr., Michael Mayes, HiKeem Mayes and Cordell Turner and 2 great grandchildren. 2 special nieces; Sheila Bullock Walker of Lima and Grace Brown of Florence, MS. Four brothers; Luther Mayes (Debra) of Sacramento, CA., J.W. Mayes (Ruby), Charlie Mayes and Thomas Mayes all of Florence, MS. 2 sisters; Idona Owens of Florence, MS and Fannie Mayes of Canton, MS. A brother-in-law; James White (Gloria) of Lima. A host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; Howard L. Mayes. 5 brothers; Eddie Mayes, Amos Mayes, Willis Mayes, Albert Mayes and Ted Mayes. 2 sisters; Mary Williams and Alice Mae Wilson.
Services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. David Kelly, officiating.
Visitation/Wake services will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery
