Obituary

James Edward Battle, Sr. passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024 in Lima, Ohio.  He was born on November 27, 1960 in Lima, Ohio to the Mr. and Mrs. Phillip and Betty (Youngblood) Battle, Sr.  Both parents preceded him in death.

James is survived by: a daughter, Felicia Williams of Cincinnati, Ohio (mother Marva Williams-Cowan of Lima, Ohio); a son, Andre Battle of Lima, Ohio and bonus daughter, Ashlie Rae Wall of Fort Wayne, Indiana (mother Brenda Wall-Guice of Lima, Ohio); sons, Jerome Crockett, James Edward Battle, Jr., Jeremy Pryor, all of Lima, Ohio; Jamal Battle of Honolulu, Hawaii and daughter Jocelyn Battle of Lima, Ohio (mother- former wife, Deborah Ann Crockett-Battle).

Grandchildren, who he adoringly called "The J Team", as their names begin with "J", in his honor; Boss Briana, being the leader of the pack, along with bonus grandchildren.

One brother, Reverend Phillip, (Cathy) Battle of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Gertha Denise Battle-White (Darrell) and Peggy Darlene Battle, both of Lima, Ohio. 22 grandchildren.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. He will also be missed by his many friends and community.

James graduated from Lima Senior High School with the class of 1978, as a football standout and known for his many athletic abilities. He later attended Ohio State University, Lima, graduating with Dual Bachelor Degrees, focused on serving others. He was employed with The Mary Ann Brown Facility prior to his health declining.

Although his health declined, his faith remained strong as he survived a brain aneurysm, a pacemaker, a kidney transplant and 24 years of dialysis.

As a habitual student of the Bible and prayer warrior, he was known to break out in prayer in the middle of a conversation at anytime, anywhere and comforted many with his prayers.

As a child at eight years old, he played the drums and in his late 20s taught himself to play the piano by ear with the grace of God, and played the keyboard. His love and passion was for music and serving God, he went on to apply his talents. James served as minister of music for Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church under Reverend Davenport, and now Pastor Robert Curtis also In Faith Ministries under Pastor Lyons, Lima Community Choir, The Heavenly Angels, multiple appearances on A Gospel Sound and numerous other churches, far and near.

Heaven couldn't wait for James Edward Battle, Sr. and has now received him.

Homegoing services will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church.  Rev. Phillip Battle, Jr. will be officiating.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at noon also at the Church.

Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lima.
