Mr. James Edward Averette, age 67, passed from this life on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at his home in Lima, Ohio.

He was born on November 7, 1958, in Lima, Ohio to the late George Issac Thompson and Mary Louise (Cole) Averett.

Mr. Averette faithfully served as a member of the custodial staff at Philippian Missionary Baptist Church. He was a devoted family man who cherished time with his loved ones. He found joy in fishing and was known for his remarkable ability to bring laughter to everyone around him.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Darell Averett, Douglas E. Averett, Rose Marie Averett and Delores Y. Jackson.  His paternal grandmother Marie Reeder Gilbert and maternal grandparents Lena Coffey and Ronnie Cole.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his son, James E. Averett, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio; three daughters, Sharon D. Saunders (Brittany) and LaTanya S. Averett-Hampton (DJ) both of Columbus, Ohio and Syvillia A. Averett of Brunswick, Georgia. He will be dearly missed by his eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. His siblings; Cornell I. Cole (Sherry) of LaPlace, Louisiana, Vivian A. Jackson, Vernessa M. Averett and Debora Thompson all of Lima, Ohio and Georgia A. Thompson of California. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Jones-Clark Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Jermaine Lawrence officiating.

Visitation/wake will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. until time of services at also at the funeral home.
