Helen Lee (Thompson) Shurelds, age 98, peacefully transitioned on January 22, 2026, in Lima, Ohio, surrounded by family. Born on December 2, 1927, in Florence, Alabama, she was the beloved daughter of James and Mamie Thompson, who preceded her in death. On October 4, 1946, Helen was united in holy matrimony to her devoted husband, Larry V. Shurelds, who also preceded her in death. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and matriarch whose life was centered around God, service, and caring for others. She was a faithful and proud member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where her strong faith and dedication to her church family were evident throughout her life. She devoted many years of compassionate service as a nursing aide at Lima Memorial Hospital, where her gentle spirit and caring heart touched countless lives. Helen's warmth extended far beyond her work. Her home and heart were always open to family, friends, and anyone in need. In her younger years, Helen loved to travel and explore the world. She had an eye for fashion and took great pride in always being well dressed, never missing a chance to get "dolled up." She enjoyed garage sales, good conversation, laughter, and making lasting memories with those she loved. Her presence brought wisdom, joy, and comfort wherever she went. Helen leaves to cherish her memory her eight children: Larry V. (Lucy) Shurelds , Tony Shurelds, Harold Shurelds, Bruce (Doris) Shurelds all of Lima, OH. Bonnie (Frank) Perkins of Anniston, Alabama, Cathy Shurelds, Phyllis (Lee) Stewart, of Lima, OH and Tammy Shurelds of Columbus, Ohio. She also leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love through 24 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 45 great-great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Larry V. Shurelds; her daughters Yvonne Shurelds, Carolyn Faye Shurelds, and LaJoyce Williamson; her sister Julia Walker; and her brother Alex Weakley. Helen will forever be remembered for her loving heart, unwavering faith, strength, style, and the beautiful legacy she leaves through the many generations she nurtured and inspired. Though she will be deeply missed, her love lives on in all who were blessed to know her.
