IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gregory "Sauce"
Saucer
December 12, 1949 – August 31, 2025
Gregory Lee Saucer, widely known as "Sauce," was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, friend, NAVY veteran and a highly respected figure. He was born in Lima, Ohio, on December 12th in 1949, to the union of Overton and Anna Louise (Howard) Saucer, a guiding light to all who knew him, departed this world peacefully on August 31, 2025, leaving behind a legacy imbued with kindness, wisdom, and a steadfast devotion to his family, friends, and community. His passing marks the end of a remarkable journey, one that touched countless lives.
He is lovingly remembered by his two sisters, Diane M. Jordan of Springfield, Ohio, and Cheryl K. Lloyd of Columbus, Ohio, who carry forward his legacy with pride. He was also a devoted brother to Leslie Saucer, a cherished uncle to his niece Nia Llyod, and grandfather to Demond Liles Jr. whom each preceded him in death but remained close to his heart.
Greg was a dedicated father to his surviving six children: his one and only son, Gregory Johnson (Lantonya Johnson) of Charlotte, NC. Five daughters — Erica Brownlow (Joseph) and Tiffany Brownlow, both of Cincinnati, OH; Nikia Branham of Dayton Ohio; Sharnae Robertson of Lima, OH; and Maleehah Robertson of Columbus, OH. He also shared a close, fatherly bond with a special son, Derek Sunderhaus .
In addition, Greg leaves behind 18 loving grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, including his youngest grandson, August Robertson, whom he affectionately nicknamed his "Short-dog," and helped raise and cherished deeply from birth. Beyond his immediate family, Greg leaves a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Throughout his life, Gregory was more than just a beloved family man; he was a city legend. Respected and reputable in every circle, from the streets of Lima to the hearts of many, Sauce was a man of realness and fierce spirit. With just a smile, he could convince you water wasn't wet. His humor was infectious, his honesty candid, and his ability to share knowledge made him both a mentor and role model to many.
A devoted follower of the Islamic faith, Gregory held tightly to many principles instilled in him from childhood. Like his beloved mother, Anna Louise, he had a heart for people—always willing to help, and always discreetly.
A natural leader, Gregory excelled in athletics at Lima Senior High School, exhibiting his prowess on the basketball court and football field – garnering him several accolades for his athleticism. Gregory's passion for learning led him to pursue higher studies, earning him an Associate's Degree in Social Studies. He went on to serve as a group facilitator for sobriety programs at Allen County and North Central Correctional Institutions, showing his deep commitment to helping others reclaim their lives. Gregory dedicated most of his career to the West Ohio Food Bank, where he earned widespread respect for his integrity and tireless work ensuring Lima families had access to food.
Beyond his professional impact, Greg was passionate about life. He loved taking pictures of close friends and family, was an avid sports fanatic, and found joy in competitive chess. He also cherished his time at the Eagles Club playing Queen of Hearts. Above all, he lived to share life lessons — his words, whether playful or profound, offered guidance and uplifted everyone around him. He lived by principles rooted in strength, discipline, and resilience. His impact was both insightful and enduring, creating ripples of love and wisdom that continue to inspire. As he would say… "Ya dig?"
