Emma Lee Shurelds, age 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 8:28 p.m. at her residence, surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
Emma was born on June 30, 1942, in Belzoni, Mississippi, to Emzer and Willie Ann (Leonard) Shurelds Sr., who both preceded her in death. She dedicated 30 years of service as an assembly line worker at Ford Motor Company and was a proud member of UAW Local 1219.
Emma was a caring woman with a generous and giving spirit. She found great joy in cooking, spending time with her family, and especially playing bingo. Her warmth, kindness, and love for those around her will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, Napoleon (Tina) Shurelds and Mark A. Shurelds, both of Lima, Ohio; one daughter, Carla S. Pea (Shurelds) of Dallas, Texas; one adopted son, Scott I. (Jennifer) Shurelds of Lima, Ohio; and two adopted daughters, Tracie A. Shurelds of Lima, Ohio and Leslie A. Shurelds of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by one adopted son, James Q. Shurelds “Chic”; her twin sister, Irma Shurelds; and her siblings, Margaret Shurelds, Theresa Smith, Chester Shurelds Sr., John Shurelds Sr., Emzer Shurelds Jr., Sally Horton, and Ruthie Shurelds.
Emma’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and devotion to family. She will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Jones-Clark Funeral Home Chapel.
