Elder John David Holly, age 72, passed away from this life on Wednesday, June 12, at approximately 7:42 p.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center.
Elder Holly, a beloved pastor, evangelist, community leader, and friend, devoted his life to faith and love for others. He was born in Alliance, Ohio on November 7, 1951, to the union of John and Margret (Kirksey) Holly. Both of his parents preceded him in death.
Elder Holly was an ordained minister and evangelist with the Church of God in Christ Inc. He delivered his first sermon on June 10, 1973, and had the privilege of pastoring several churches in Mississippi and Ohio. Throughout his tenure, Elder Holly was known for his compassionate heart, unwavering faith, and commitment to all those he served. His sermons, filled with wisdom and inspiration, touched countless lives globally. Elder Holly was known for never meeting a stranger and was often referred to as a "Walking Bible". Elder Holly was actively involved as a board member of Health Partners of Western Ohio.
His legacy extends beyond his pastoral and evangelism duties. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Alice, and a loving father to his daughter Tami (William) Slaise of Lima, OH. He was also a cherished figure to his grandchildren Rashad (Sparkle) Holly (whom he helped raise), Skyler, and his three bonus grandchildren William III, Thalia, and Constancia, as well as his six great-grandchildren. He was a devoted brother to his sister Lynn (Porter) Phillips of Las Vegas. His family meant the world to him, and he treasured every moment he spent with them. He also had an exceptional bond with his spiritual sons Richard Parrish and Mark Cousey and with his friend Pastor Willie Frank Campbell. He is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother Daniel Holly.
Home going services will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Church of God in Christ with Elder Franklin Culver, officiating.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 12:00 p.m. also at the Church.
Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery
