Obituary of Donald Lanier, Sr.

Donald "Luv Bug" Lanier, Sr. age 71, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 4:54 a.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, OH.  He was born on August 28, 1952, to St John and Lillie (Harris) Lanier, Sr. of Chicago, IL.  Both parents preceded him in death.  He is survived by his companion of 50 years, Barbara McDowell.  She survives in Lima, OH.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a handyman for many people in Lima, and his hobbies included fishing and gardening. He also had a great sense of humor and loved listening to old-school music.

He leaves to cherish his memory, 1 son:  Donald Lanier, Jr. of Zanesville, OH; and 1 daughter:  Lashona Lanier of Lima, OH.  3 grandchildren:  Donovan Isiah Lanier and Jaylen Michael Lanier of Zanesville, OH and Jordan Taylor Zimmerman of Lima, OH.  6 sisters:  Jeanette (Odell) Godbold; Carolyn Lanier, Janice Lanier, Vengarie Lanier, Vernita Lanier, Tracey Lanier, all of Detroit, MI.  3 brothers:  St John Lanier, Jr., Carl (Rosetta) Lanier, and Brent Lanier, all of Detroit, MI.  4 uncles:  Calvin Harris, Milton Harris, Jerome Harris and Robert Harris, all of Detroit, MI.  2 aunts:  BeBe Chambers and Gail McEroy both of Detroit, Mi.  A host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by 2 brothers:  Gregory Lanier and Randy Lanier.  2 sisters:  Georgia Lanier and Millie Lanier.

Home Going Services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Jones-Clark Funeral Home with Rev. Julius Laws officiating.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.

Interment:  Woodlawn Cemetery
