Mrs. C.  Jeanette Simmons,  age 94, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at approximately 8:30 p.m.  at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Lima.

Jeanette was born on October 25, 1920 in Lima, Ohio to the union of Lehman E. Black Sr. and Mary Kathrine Patterson Black, both parents preceded her in death.

She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Joseph D. Simmons on July 24, 1943, he preceded her in death on March 14, 1985.

She graduated from Central High School in June of 1938, taking on her first job at the Allen County Court House.  Jeanette became the first African American Stenographer,  taking shorthand and typing 100 wpm on her old green manual royal typewriter.

Jeanette worked part-time at the Bradfield Center for many years and finished her career at Standard Oil Company working in the storehouse with Grady Stephens and that's where she met Michael Green.  Her first love was her church,  Second Baptist Church.  She was a volunteer at St. Rita's Medical Center, a member of the Red Hatters,  Non-Pariel Club and the Gay Dozen Club.  Jeanette loved to crochet and cook and most of all she loved her family.  She made it a point to attend all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren's special events.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory, 3 daughters;  Michele D. Floyd (Isaac), Cathy Simmons McDonald and Natalie Simmons McLester all of Lima. 3 grandchildren;  Damon Floyd (Regina), Micah Floyd both of Lima.  Teah Floyd of Columbus, OH.  5 great grandchildren; Adrian Borja, Blake Floyd, Cedric McNeal, Dimitri Floyd and Eliyana Floyd.  A close friend; Michael Green (Angie) of Wapakoneta, OH.  A host of  nieces and nephews, her loving caretaker Charlene Sanders and friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother; Lehman Black, Jr., Sister in Law; M. June Black and a lifelong friend she loved, Betty Huggins.
