Mrs. Alma Bernice Southern Smith, age 89, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at approximately 5:37 a.m. at her residence in Lima, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on September 25, 1925 in Florence, Alabama to the union of Hence and Anna Jo Scott Southern; both parents preceded her in death.
On October 19, 1943 she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Louis C. Smith, Sr., he preceded her in death on March 9, 1975.
Mrs. Smith retired from the Housekeeping Department at St. Rita's Medical Center. She also worked part-time at the Allen County Department of Aging. She was a devoted member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Nurse's Aide Board. She loved shopping, was a devoted Mother and she loved the Lord.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory a very special companion; George Hill "Papa" of Lima. 4 sons; Earnest Smith (Ginnice) of Union, TN. Ronnie Smith (Bernita), Michael Smith (Vicki) and Timothy Smith, Sr. all of Lima. 4 daughters; Beverly Long (Winifred "Bill") of Toledo Ohio. Debbie Herron (Robert), Verna "Bee" Wash (Rev. Steven) and Carmen Smith all of Lima. 3 special daughters; Alice Jackson of Lima, Cheryl Hill of Florida and Sally Barker of Muncie, Indiana. 29 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by 1 son; Louis C. Smith, Jr., 1 brother; Edward C. Southern and 1 sister; Rosie L. Williams.
