Mr. Benjamin Gooden White, age 68, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 12 2017 at approximately 8:05 pm. at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born on December 30, 1948 in Russell County, Alabama to Sam White and Johnnie Mae Gooden; both parents preceded him in death.
He was united in holy matrimony on July 1, 2011 to Dora L. Shurelds who survives in Lima, Ohio.
Mr. White retired from General Motors Corporation after 34 years of service; he was a member of local union 211. He was a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where he as a Deacon of the church and also a member of the Mission Ministry. He was a graduate of Lima Senior High School and was on the Basketball team in 1968 that went to the State Tournament. He also ran Cross Country Track. He was very active in the community; in 1977 he was nominated by Jaycee Society of Lima as an outstanding young man of America he was a member of Frontiers International and a Volunteer Probation Officer in 1973. He was the producer of the Boogie Down Television Station here in Lima and Director of the Uhuru Cultural Center here in Lima and was also the owner of White’s Landscaping.
Besides his loving wife Dora he leaves to cherish his precious memory a son; Quincy White of Lima. 2 daughters; Chanon D. White and LaSheena M. Manley (Depree) both of Columbus, Ohio. 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. A sister; Geraldine Carlisle of Lima and a special niece; Natosha White of Columbus, Ohio.
Services will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. H. Frank Taylor, III, officiating.
Visitation/wake services will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 at the Chapel of Jones-Clark Funeral Home, Inc. from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services entrusted to: JONES-CLARK FUNERAL HOME, INC.
